amp Success The foundation and camp hosts are pleased to thank all of this year's supporters of Camp Success.
The first session, June 6-11 at Florence-Darlington Technical College's Southeastern Institute of Manufacturing and Technology hosted 19 campers. Rob Betler, General Manager of S&W Manufacturing, A Smead Company served as the camp's industry host. On opening day, Rob presented a workshop on the paper industry. The week was filled with workshops including a plastics demonstration followed by the campers interviewing engineers from Nan Ya Plastics Corp America, an exciting workshop on electricity and batteries presented by Johnson Controls, Inc., a design workshop presented by Automation Engineering Corporation and a plant tour of Honda of SC Mfg, Inc.
The next sessions of Camp Success were June 20-25 at USC Aiken and Greenville Technical College. This 2nd year of the Greenville camp hosted 15 campers and Rachel Gilles, Training Specialist at Advanced Technology Services served as the industry host and presented a team building workshop on assembly line operations. The campers toured the Automation Engineering Corporation facilty and participated in their design workshop in which they built traffic light prototypes.
Also during June 20-25, 14 campers were hosted by USC Aiken at the Ruth Patrick Science Education Center. Mike Eaton, Plant Manager of BAE Systems served as the camp's industry host. Engineers from BAE led the ice cream sundae specifications workshop on opening day. For the 2nd time in its 3 year history, the Aiken camp focused on the past, present and future of manufacturing and engineering. The camp started with a boat tour on the Augusta Canal for the campers to learn about the history of manufacturing in the textile industry and the use of water power. The campers were shown present day manufacturing during a plant tour at Bridgestone Firestone SC. The campers interviewed engineers from BSFS and participated in team building workshops. Also providing valuable information on manufacturing today, Kimberly Clark Corporation presented a paper making workshop, Automation Engineering Corporation presented their design workshop, and Linde, LLC presented a chemical demonstration. The campers also toured the Aiken Techncial College campus as well as the USC Aiken campus. Aiken Tech presented a workshop on radiation decontamination. The future of manufacturing was most definitely demonstrated by a tour and workshop at Savannah River Nuclear Solutions' Center for Hydrogen Research.
The last 2010 session of Camp Success, July 12-16, at Seneca Middle School hosted 48 campers. The camp opened with a yogurt parfait specifications workshop presented by Lift Technologies, Inc. A field trip to Greenville allowed the campers to tour and participate in Automation Engineering Corporation's design workshop followed by visiting Advanced Technology Services to participate in their team buidling assembly line workshop. The campers had an outstanding day at Borg Warner Torque Transfer Systems where they not only toured the facility but were then taken out on Borg Warner's test track.
